 Zoe hits 63 pounds gone in less than 6 months...

Isn't her transformation great! These photos tell it all. Zoe eats alot of raw foods, but has at least one cooked meal a day with her husband. Her calories average about 1200 a day and she does two sessions of exercise each day. Her first is always a long morning walk with her husband and dogs, and because it is winter where she lives, oftentimes her second walk is canceled due to weather. That doesn't keep her from pushing forward, she just throws in a cardio DVD and gets to work.

I say less than six months because the first two to three weeks Zoe worked on Finding Her Perfect Diet and held off on the weight loss. Boy has that paid off.  Everyone wants to rush to fast weight loss, including Zoe when she started, but for most that rush leads to burnout and a short lived diet. I have worked with Zoe before and she did great on an all raw diet, but it was hard and she couldn't keep it up. Has her program with the "perfect diet" been stellar? Not at all, she has taken some big falls. The difference is, she was able to get right back up and push forward, and all it took to get her to do that was an easily offered hand.

My life started to change the day I began the 6 week, individualized program offered by Carlene and I haven't looked back. The reviews on the websites give a good idea of people's experiences; I'll just say that the initial program and subsequent monthly ones have been so much better than any of the myriad of diets I've done over the years that there's simply no comparison.

Finding Your Perfect Diet - Does it really matter?...

I know I tell you all the time how much I love this program, but I can't help myself. After so many years of watching the obese as they struggle to lose weight, to now watch them shine is just overwhelming. I'm the first to admit that not everyone makes it through the full 6 week program. Some people are not ready to change, but for those who are and who really apply themselves to the tenets of this program, the results are astonishing. I'm not talking pounds gone because believe it or not most decided after taking a realistic view of themselves and their relationship to food to take the steady weight loss route. Many find that making peace with their eating and not stressing over their diet is just a better way to go.

I asked clients in a current Finding Your Perfect Diet group the other day about how the idea of perfection has kept them heavy all these years. Usually people talk about that all or nothing gene many of us who are obese have, but some spoke of something else. Here are their responses. I will tell you, if I ever had doubts about this program, these responses squelched them:


Sonodalove...

I would usually do good on a diet for about 2-4 weeks and then it got harder and harder to maintain. I travel for work at certain times of the year and it would be very hard having to follow some diet that was not easily done outside the house. Dinner meetings and receptions are very much a part of my travels. So I would fail and just let go of everything I worked for. I would fall but would never get back up and so my weight would go down a little and then up more than it was before. 5 pounds down 10 pounds up.

I have come to learn that 1400-1600 calories can be a lot of food if you eat good food. I know that I can eat 1100 calories in a day and not feel like I am starving. I have come to accept that I am human and I will make mistakes and I will not always be perfect but it is OK. I have come the realization that the only thing that is not OK is to fall and not get back up. I can only hurt myself further by not getting up, dusting myself off and continuing. I think back to when I have failed before and I got on the scale and I had gained 5 pounds instead of getting back on my program I gave into a defeatist attitude and I ate more, all I can say now is "really?". What was I thinking. I will no longer let setbacks become excuses to hurt myself further. I will tell myself it is time to get back on track and take off the pounds and continue on my downward direction. Do you know how powerful this is to me, the fact that I actually feel confident that I will be able to do it I am so excited.

I have definitely let the idea of perfection weigh me down.  I have gotten very dark and angry with myself.  The build up to starting a diet is so huge, there is so much hope.  "I'm going to do it this time!".  Visualizing myself as thin and happy.  Then I go on the diet, last a few days and fail.  Then I start telling myself how I fail at EVERYTHING and I am no good and I am stupid for even falling into the diet trap again.  Even while working on this program I caught myself a few times at the grocery store almost picking up a magazine to look at their newest quick weight loss diet.  But I didn't pick them up.  I remembered that what I have been learning here is real and lifelong.

With this program I feel completely different.  That there is no failure.  That each day I will make choices that I want.  I f I choose to eat something unhealthy it is my choice.  If I choose to eat healthfully it is my choice.  Exercising is my choice.  I can think about and look at my goals.  Where do I want to go?  How do I want to feel. I am fortunate to have control of that so take control.  Most of the time I am going to opt for healthy.  Every once in a while I might want to share desert.  I can because it is my choice.  Like you said, how do I want my bloodstream to look, let alone my bum and thighs!!  There is no failure because I am not on someone else's program. I am on my program.

LNTBB...

I've learned a lot about living all the time during this 5 weeks.  I don't know that I've struggled with perfection so much as, I just haven't believed that I could really make a difference.  I've felt trapped in the continuing spiral upwards.  In the past I would try something that others had been successful with - only to find that it didn't work for me.

I realize now, that even though I've been a 'healthy eater' the reality was I was not.  Now that fact pricks my pride a bit, but it is the truth, and now that I've realized the truth- perfection  falls - I know how to get back to the new reality.  That is life changing for me!

Exercise - I've always known it has been important.  I suspect that when I am not in weight loss mode, I may not do 2 hrs a day, but it is my intention to do no less than an hour a day- because that is what works. 

Failure  -  I have felt that most of the time, but not now.  I choose when I step off the trail, even if I look up and discover I've fallen off a cliff, there are hand holds for me to get back up, and that is just what my mindset allows now.   

It's an adventure where every day I'm involved. I am living each day instead of wondering what happened to each day.  There is a difference.  I'll be glad when I know more about the foods that I eat, so that I don't have to check the values each day, but until such time recording - good and bad days lets me see that it is all in my control.  I can do this!  I can change.  I am losing weight-finally - with no outside gimmick.  It's work and planning

Canadian Thanksgiving is in October...

The holidays are quickly approaching. I will be offering 4 different workshops to help people through the holidays. The first is Canadian Thanksgiving. This is a 1 week workshop to help you plan for the holiday. We will work together as a group to come up with ways to address coping with all the treats, what foods to bring to events to ensure you have food that works with your current plan, how to survive pre-holiday parties, and how to not eat out of obligation or guilt because someone expects it of you. The week will be about taking control of the holiday so you can enjoy it without gaining weight. That is our main premise: Get through the holiday week without gaining weight. We will spend 5 days together before the holiday brainstorming, take the holiday off, and then come back the day after for a recap and ideas on how to deal with leftovers.

Workshop Learning Hungry and Full was a hit...

We had four great days in the free Learning Hungry and Full workshop. Seventeen people signed up, only 9 participated. I guess many were surprised that they would actually have to not eat so they would feel hunger! A couple who were going to participate wrote and said they thought it was just going to be daily audios for the 4 days and that there wouldn't be any work. Even Zoe said that while she had read my emails that said there would be evening food curfews and that breakfast and lunch would be fruit, the reality hadn't set in until we actually started. I am happy to say she finished the workshop and actually got what I hoped many would get from it.

Those that participated seemed to really embrace the premise that there is real value in knowing what true hunger and full feel like and the important role they can play in our lives when it come to life long weight management.
