Kara is Getting Married...

So much has happened in Kara's life this past year and a half. Not only did she lose a lot of weight, hike Machu Picchu and other difficult trails while in Peru, she survived viral pneumonia and found her true love. She is getting married on June 20th. The other day she picked up her wedding gown and wrote and told me that she stood in front of the mirror for an hour staring at how beautiful she was. How wonderful is that? Elisa Hits 76 lbs Gone 5 Months...

Elisa hit the 75 lb gone mark at the end of May. We are going for the 100 pound marker by the end of July, so keep watching her. If you go to her public page you can see her latest photos.

Katrina Hits 51 lbs Gone 3 Months...

Okay it was 3 months 1 week, but it is still a great loss that most only dream of. At this rate she will hit the 100lb gone mark in just 3 more months!

Stargazer Sets First Week Record...

Stargazer lost 23.4 pounds her first week of the new program! It is a testament to how she was eating before getting back with the program to lose that much weight in one week, but gosh! I've seen a lot of big losses the first week but this is just huge and was on a 1800 calorie a day plan. She has been at RFBC before and always has big losses when she starts, but nothing like this.

 Zoe is Proving that this New Program is the Way to go...

Zoe is in her third month on the new program. Keeping in mind that the first two to three weeks are not about weight loss, she has lost 36.2 pounds so far, and the best part is, she has done it by her own words, pretty effortlessly. There is a new philosophy with the new program. With all clients we aim for health, happiness, and weight loss...in that order. Zoe is getting it all. She walks twice a day with her husband and dogs, feels more confident, and just the other day wore her first waisted pants in years. For those of us who lived in elastic waisted pants because of our obesity, this first pair of pants with snap and zipper is a fun milestone. Another big thing that happened for her this past week was when depression hit. She has experienced depression most of her life. It seemed to come in cycles. Usually it sent her into a binge. This time around not only did the depression seem less severe, but it lasted a much shorter time and the idea to eat through it was not there. This is what eating clean food and consistent exercise can do. Everyone is different, but moving to a healthy diet and exercise program can make huge changes in any one's life.

Here is what she had to say at the end of her last program:

Zoe should be the first person on the new program to hit the 50 pound mark. That is only 14 pounds away, so keep tabs on us so you can see her new photos when she hits that milestone marker. Her last photos were pretty amazing for the first 30 pounds, but only I get to see those. I will be very excited to share her 50 pound photos.

Dcberry is on her way...

Dcberry is having the same type of results as Zoe, not just in weight, but in mindset as well. Her attitude is always positive and each day she finds out new things about herself that she feels will take her not just to her goal, but to a life of health and happiness.

Here is what she had to say at the end of her 6 Week Intro Program:

This program has been an answer to a prayer and a definite means to an end; the end of my weight loss ups and downs forever.  When I first started, I had such anxiety if I had to think about food but that is what led to a life of obesity.  I never took the time to think about food until I was sitting in front a fast food drive thru speaker.  When I first talked to Carlene, she said, "I want you to think about everything your eating now so you don't have to obsess about it for the rest of your life."  Now, making healthy choices has become a way of life.  It's not a diet to me anymore, it's just the way I live.  My snacking now is fruit instead of chips, chocolate, etc.  I have fleeting thoughts about bad foods but I am confident enough in myself now to remember that my health is most important.  You truly are my "angel" Carlene.  Thank you!~dcberry

Sadie Graduates and Goes Out on Her Own...

A few years back, Sadie was living abroad and enjoying a 100% raw life. She felt great, but when she came back to the states life got a little more complicated and raw fell by the wayside.

She asked to work with me to lose some weight, but more importantly to get back to a clean diet for both herself and her family. The first two weeks I wondered if we could do this as her food preferences were high fat snacks and she was finding excuses in her life to keep from eating the way she said she wanted.

At around week 3, it clicked and she made the jump over to clean healthy food. Once she had done this it was smooth sailing for her. She wasn't an emotional eater, and she didn't have a lot of bad food habits to break. The few things that were hanging her up were addressed and solutions found.

By the fifth week I knew she didn't need my help anymore and suggested that to her before her program was complete.  She had done what I hope everyone will be able to do. She asked for help, she acted on that help, and she embraced the diet and exercise program we created. I have no doubt Sadie will flourish on her own.

Sadie is a great example of what this program is about. Unlike Raw Food Boot Camp where people came and stayed for as long as they dieted, this new program is designed to get each person to the point where they don't need me to succeed because they come to terms with their relationship to food and the diet and exercise program we design together is perfect for life long success.

Sadie may come back here and there for some extra support and let us know how she is doing. She is on her way to the life she wanted, and in my book that is a perfect success story.

Stacy is Back at Camp...

After having her house hit by a tornado and dealing with a ton of personal stress Stacy has returned to camp. The beauty of all this is that when she returned she was still in Onederland. She had gained a couple of pounds, but nothing compared to how others would have dealt with the situation. She is now back to 100% raw and losing weight for a total of 105 lbs so far!

Welcome to New Members...

Five new members have joined my program since the last newsletter:

Kiceja. - Kiceja lost 30 pounds before signing up for support. After working a discovery program, she is now moving into weight loss mode and upping her exercise. Exercise is her biggest hurdle, but we are working through that so she gains the confidence she needs to walk without injury or pain.

Niadance- Niadance was a dancer, but hurt her ankle and had ankle replacement surgery not to long ago. She is working hard to get back her flexibility and strength. During discovery she was having a lot of fibromyalgia type of symptoms so we moved to a cleaner more fruit based diet with a nice cooked meal in the evening and within a few short days she feels much better. We are still working on bringing her calories down slowly for a faster weight loss, but in her case slow and steady will work if she feels good about her diet and can get back to dancing.

Stargazer - Stargazer had done RFBC a few times over the years. Each time she did great for a few months and had big losses, but the restrictions of a 100% raw program were too much and she would disappear. This time we are working on a high raw program. She is a great walker so her getting exercise is never a challenge. The challenge will be keeping her motivated past the first couple of months. She like Zoe and others is finding the freedom of the new program promising for long term success. In her first week she lost 23.4 pounds which is an RFBC record

Ri - Ri has lost 100 lbs on her own with a metabolic typing diet. She found that even though she was able to lose the weight she still bounced back and forth with 20 pounds and did not get to the weight she had hoped for. She sought support to help with the yo-yo effect and to lose the remaining weight. We skipped discovery and are using our time together to work on consistency and dealing with life when it comes to maintaining weight loss.

Rdlesstrvld - Rdlesstrvld was an exception to the 75 lb overweight rule because she was ready to change not just her weight but her relationship with food. She is doing great and embracing the program we have created for her and losing the weight she came to get off.

Final Words from Carlene...Health, Happiness and Weight Loss

This new program works. It may seem backward, it may be tough at times, and not everyone is ready to do it as evidenced by the two clients who disappeared before completing their first six weeks, but for those that come committed to change with an open mind, it can be revolutionary.

I have to share with you my favorite moment from last week. It was with Bbaker. She had joined the 6 Week Intro program determined to be 100% raw. I let her, but it just didn't work. Five years ago she had weight loss surgery which could be the cause of what happened. She had read so many stories where women who did 100% raw were full of energy and felt an overall wellness that she really wanted. Unfortunately the opposite happened. I tried to convince her to give up the idealism of 100% raw and to move cooked food back into her diet thinking that maybe she just was not absorbing nutrients correctly. She just did not want to. The idea of getting healthy with raw was more powerful than the pain and depression she was suffering each day. At the end of her program I had decided that I would not be able to support her any longer. I insist that health always comes first and did not feel what she was doing was good for her*. She had had enough herself, but instead of ending our relationship, she chose to try the program the way it was designed and she signed up for another month. After just a week and a half it was like I was talking to a completely different woman. She was happy, beaming actually and feeling good about her new diet and the hope it brought to the health she was looking for. I will admit, it brought tears to my eyes to listen to her. Not because she chose to do this my way, but because the woman on the phone was one full of enthusiasm and joy which was a complete opposite to the woman who first joined.

We all have ideas of what is the perfect diet. Most of these ideas are based on what others have experienced or what the latest hype is. That even includes my program. The truth is, each person must take the time to figure out what really will work for them based on who they are not on who the "general public" is. Bbaker figured this out. Zoe and Dcberry have figured this out and even Tigerlilly with her struggle to give up the restaurant foods that are keeping her heavy has figured it out. There is no perfect diet for everyone, just the perfect diet and exercise program for you. Do not settle for anything else.

Whether you choose to work with me privately or do this on your own, know this: We all have the power within us to change. It doesn't take courage or willpower, it takes desire, desire to be the person you know you are beneath that fat suit. Don't keep putting it off. If I had known what I know now about obesity and my own relationship with food when I was in my 20's my life would have been very different.

The perfect day to start taking control of your relationship with food will never arrive, so why not make it today?
