I Hope You Are Having a Great New Year!

Things are going real well for my clients whether they are doing all raw, high raw, or an independent program. Already in just two weeks they have collectively lost 67 pounds! Not a bad start for a new year. This week we have been talking about balance. In the Finding Your Perfect Diet, the discussion is about balance with food. It was something I learned when doing macrobiotics. For success in life though it takes more than just balance with food. With weight loss there are three major components for ultimate success: food, exercise, and attitude. Many discount the latter, yet of the three it is the most important.

If you feel right about what you are doing, even better, if you are excited about what you are doing, then the other two - food and exercise - are much easier to maintain. There is however, a big difference between thinking what you are doing is right and feeling it. Most of us know when it really is the right time. A sense of peace comes over us because we aren't fighting with ourselves anymore as to what our true priorities are.

I'm not saying that those with positive attitudes don't stray here and there, or that they don't have cravings. Hey even the best of us are human, what I'm saying is if you really want this for you, not for anyone else, but for you, then your chance of not just reaching your health goal, but maintaining it, are a hundred times better than someone who is doing this because they feel they have to.

I hope she doesn't mind, but case in point is Zoe. If you follow my client summaries, you may have noticed that Zoe lost 64 pounds right off the bat. She was fired up, motivated and couldn't wait for the next day to shed some pounds. But then she had four months with no loss. Now some of you are thinking, boy that's a shame, sorry to hear she gave up. You would be wrong. What people don't see is that during a very hard time for her, she dealt with many things that made her obese in the first place and while she had some bad days where she lost control, she never lost belief in herself that it was time for her to do this. I am glad to report she is back on track and fired up again, but here is what's really important: even with four months of struggling with her food addictions over emotional eating, she maintained her weight and by her one year anniversary will more than likely be at 85 pounds gone.

Eighty-five pounds gone in one year. When I told her that the other day, she was shocked. There were so many times when she felt like a failure, but she never gave up. She fought her way through all the emotions and bad habits that had made and kept her obese for a very long time. In the past these would have been times when she gained back all the weight she had lost. That is the great win of this story. She did not gain the weight back. Four months of no loss, and now that she has found that spark again, for the first time in her dieting history, she isn't starting at the beginning, but where she left off.

Now as she grows closer and closer to her goal weight, she can do it with assurance that she does know how to deal with those tough times that come up, and that it is okay if she doesn't lose weight every day, as long as she does not lose focus on what her ultimate goal is: a beautiful, slim, active, healthy body.

How will she achieve this? Attitude. No matter how tough things seemed at times, no matter how much she felt defeated by life and ran to food for comfort, there was still this voice in the back of her mind that said. No. I do not want that in my life, I want freedom from food addictions. So each time she broke, she came back, and she grew stronger. It is this strength she will carry forward for the rest of her life.

If every one of my clients can be a Zoe I will consider myself a great success at what I do. Obesity is not cured overnight. For those that think it can be, like I did years ago, you may lose the weight, but your chances of keeping it off are slim. If, however, you are willing to learn, willing to change, and not give up when things get tough and you fall, then you too can look back next year and say, wow, not only did I lose 75-100 or even 150 pounds, but I learned how to deal with me in the process. That is when you'll know for certain that you have won.

For life long success you must change. Good food and exercise will give you the health you desire. It is your attitude that will let you find happiness in life with that good food and exercise. Without the attitude, the food and exercise will always be a goal and not your reality. Others have asked that the site have more socializing, so everyone regardless of when they join will have access to the group as a whole, and not just the few that joined with them.
